Clunderwen

Clunderwen or Clynderwen

A large village that became established with the coming of the railway in the 1850's. The village lise on the A478 almost half way between Tenby and Cardigan, making it a great place for exploring both north and south coasts of Pembrokeshire.

Llys Y Fran country park and Llawhaden castle are nearby as are The Preseli mountains.

One of the earliest manned flights in Wales took place near Clunderwen in 1913 by the James Brothers in their bi-plane.

This was the centre of a revolt against the levying of road tolls. Between 1839 and 1844, a group of wreckers called Rebecca and her daughters (men dressed as women) destroyed toll gates all accross south west Wales in what has become known as The Rebecca riots. There's a roadside cafe north of Clunderwen, alongside the A478, known as Cafe Becca.

There are a few small camp sites and caravan sites nearby. There are also one or two good B&B's and hotels in the vicinity and in nearby Narberth. There are quite a number of good self catering cottages in surrounding villages, including some of the cottages in Clunderwen itself.
