Extreme spring cleaning at Oakwood Theme Park.

Bounce at Oakwood Theme Parks gets a spring clean

Ride engineers at Oakwood Theme Park got stuck in to some rather unusual spring cleaning this week - 150 feet above the ground!

Despite chilly conditions engineer Rob Prickett fearlessly donned rubber gloves and scaled scaffolding to reach the top of the Park's famous shot and drop tower coaster.

The ride is undergoing a programme of re-painting prior to the Pembrokeshire park reopening to the public on Saturday, March 27th.

As part of the refurbishment more than half a mile of scaffolding was used to encircle Bounce and enable engineers to reach every inch of the ride from top to bottom to prime it before painting started.

Oakwood Theme Park's Stephanie Churchard said: "Rob is extremely experienced and used to working at heights so he was the perfect candidate to be volunteered!

"To be honest I think the he found the prospect of wearing a pair of my pink rubber gloves much more daunting than having to climb 150 feet above the ground on the scaffolding!

"It's certainly not an everyday occurrence for him or the rest of our ride engineers but this sort of preparation is vital in the run up to the park re-opening for the new season.

"Bounce is one of our most popular rides and, with its new coats of paint, will gleam out across the rest of the park," she added.

Bounce was the first permanent ride of its type to be built in a theme park in Europe.  Riders are shot into the air at speeds reaching 70 kph in less than 2 seconds before plunging back to earth.
